Measure your fitness.
Precisely.
Direct gas analysis with VO₂ Master on a treadmill, bike or rowing machine. Get your VO₂ max, lactate threshold and personal training zones in heart rate and pace — in under an hour.
What you get
Three data points that change how you train.
VO₂ max & max HR
Your maximum oxygen uptake and actual max heart rate — measured, not estimated.
Personal training zones
Z1–Z5 in both heart rate and pace, based on your individual lactate threshold — not a formula.
Written interpretation
A short written summary from our team — what the numbers mean and how to train against them.
VO₂ max vs. Lactate threshold
Two tests — measuring different things.
Both speak to your fitness, but they answer different questions. Here's the difference in plain terms.
Aerobic capacity
VO₂ max test
- What it measures
- Your maximum oxygen uptake — the absolute ceiling for how much oxygen your body can absorb and use.
- How it's done
- You exercise on a treadmill, bike or rowing machine wearing a light mask that measures every breath in real time (gas analysis). Load increases in steps until VO₂ plateaus. No blood sample.
- Primary output
- VO₂ max (ml/kg/min), max heart rate and HR zones Z1–Z5.
- Best for
- Benchmarking aerobic fitness and tracking progress over time.
VO₂ rises in steps until it plateaus
Test protocolAnaerobic threshold
Lactate threshold test
- What it measures
- The intensity where lactate starts accumulating faster than your body can clear it — the line between sustainable and tough.
- How it's done
- Same stepped protocol on treadmill, bike or rower. At the end of each step we take a small capillary blood sample from a fingertip to measure lactate.
- Primary output
- Lactate threshold in HR and pace/watts + personal zones.
- Best for
- Dialling in session intensity and periodising toward a race.

VO₂ max test
Maximum oxygen uptake + max heart rate.
~60 minutes
- Direct gas analysis (VO₂ Master)
- Measured VO₂ max & max HR
- Personal HR zones Z1–Z5
- Written interpretation
Combined test
VO₂ max + lactate threshold in one session.
~75 minutes
- Everything in the VO₂ max test
- Measured lactate threshold
- Training zones in both HR and pace
- Best foundation for periodisation
Lactate threshold test
The threshold where sustainable turns tough.
~60 minutes
- Stepped lactate sampling (capillary blood)
- Measured anaerobic threshold
- Personal zones in HR and pace
- Written interpretation

What you take homeSample values for a runner — your own zones are set from your test.
Before your visit
How to prepare.
- Eat a light meal 2–3 hours before the test.
- Drink water — arrive rested.
- Avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol 3–4 hours before the test.
- Bring training clothes and the running shoes you usually wear.
- We have heart-rate belts on site — bring your own if you prefer.
