Best health check in Stockholm: how to choose

Blood test, DEXA or a physician review? How to compare health checks in Stockholm: what is included, who interprets results and what to ask before booking.

By Johan Hedevåg, Longevity Physician

There are many ways to get a health check in Stockholm, from a simple blood test ordered online to a full day of examinations. Which is best depends on what you want to know and what you plan to do with the results. These questions help you compare.

1. What is measured: just blood, or your body too?

Many health checks consist of blood tests only. Blood says a lot about hormones, metabolism, blood lipids and organs, but nothing about your body composition. A DEXA scan measures muscle mass, fat mass and visceral fat per body region, which a blood test cannot replace. Ask whether the check includes both blood work and body measurements.

2. Who interprets your results?

A list of values is hard to use on your own. The difference often lies in whether a physician reviews the whole picture with you, how much time you get and whether you leave with concrete next steps. Ask whether a physician consultation is included and how long it is.

3. How many visits does it take?

Sometimes blood tests, scans and physician visits happen in different places on different days. To save time, choose a health check where sampling and measurements are done in the same visit.

4. What happens afterwards?

A health check is most valuable when it leads somewhere. Ask whether follow-up is available, whether results can be compared over time and whether you can share them with your regular doctor.

Checklist before you book

  • Which biomarkers are included in the blood test?
  • Is body composition measured, for example with DEXA?
  • Is a physician consultation included, and how long is it?
  • How many visits are needed, and where?
  • What is the total cost, and are there hidden fees?
  • What follow-up is offered?
