Ultrasound-guided PRP injection for degenerative Achilles tendon changes.

Achilles tendinosis is a chronic degenerative change in the Achilles tendon causing pain, stiffness and reduced function. With diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided PRP combined with the right rehab, the tendon structure can heal and you can return to full activity.

How it works

  1. Single visit (~45 min)
    1. 01Ultrasound examination & diagnosis~15 min
A licensed physiotherapist measures tendon thickness and maps degenerative changes with diagnostic ultrasound, and confirms the treatment plan.
    2. 02Ultrasound-guided PRP injection~30 min
A blood sample is centrifuged and the platelet-rich plasma is injected with ultrasound precision directly into the affected portion of the Achilles tendon.
  2. 03Eccentric rehab & follow-up12 wk
Structured eccentric calf programme (Alfredson protocol or equivalent) with regular follow-up for optimal tendon healing.

What is Achilles tendinosis?

Achilles tendinosis is a degenerative — not acute inflammatory — change in the Achilles tendon. It develops gradually from overload and causes pain, morning stiffness and often a visible thickening of the tendon. Many try to run through it, which worsens the condition. Without proper treatment the injury can become chronic and, in the worst case, lead to tendon rupture.

How we treat Achilles tendinosis

After diagnostic ultrasound mapping the state of the tendon, PRP is placed with precision into the degenerated area. Treatment is always combined with a structured eccentric loading programme, which is the single most important rehabilitative factor for Achilles tendinosis. Most patients notice clear improvement within 8–12 weeks.
